Step One: A Discovery Flight
Whether you've dreamed about flying for years or just started thinking about it last week, the first step is the same, come out and try it. A discovery flight is a low-pressure introduction to flying, and it's the best way to find out if this is for you.
Here's what to expect when you come out to Romeo State Airport (D98):
- Meet at the airport, walk around the airplane, and learn what you're looking at
- I'll explain what we're going to do during the flight before we ever start the engine
- Once we're in the cockpit, I'll introduce you to the controls and instruments
- We'll fly out of the traffic pattern and explore the local area for a bit
- If you're up for it, we can perform some basic manuevers such as slow to give you a feel for how the airplane responds in different flight conditions
- After, we will join the traffic pattern, land the airplane and can discuss if you would like to move foward with flight training.
There's no obligation, no commitment, and no rush. The goal is for you to experience flying and decide if you want to keep going.
Before Your Flight
A few practical things so you can show up ready to fly.
Weather
We need decent weather to fly safely. Clear skies, low winds, and good visibility. If conditions don't cooperate, I'll reach out before our scheduled time so we can reschedule and save us both a trip to the airport.
A Few Suggestions
- Sunglasses, you'll wish you brought them
- Dress for the weather. We have heat in winter, but no AC in summer, only air vents
- Closed-toe shoes
- A water bottle. Altitude dehydrates you faster than you'd expect
- A camera or your phone if you want photos
Discovery Flight Cost
Flat Rate of: $150
Plan to be at the airport for about an hour and a half. That includes our preflight briefing, roughly 45 minutes in the air, and time afterward to talk through what you experienced.
One flat rate covers everything: aircraft, fuel, and my hourly. There will be no addiontal fees or expenses outside the $150.
A note on flight trainning expenses
Learning to fly is a real investment, and you deserve straight answers about what it costs. I prefer to have that conversation in person rather than throwing a number on a website that might not apply to your situation.
Transparent. No hidden costs.
Flying schools love to advertise low hourly rates and then surprise you with fees that weren't in the brochure. I don't operate that way. When we sit down together at the airport, I'll walk you through everything. Aircraft rate, instruction rate, what's included, and what isn't. When you leave after our discussion, you will understand exactly what flight training will cost, allowing you to budget for your circumstances.
Schedule a discovery flight and we'll have that conversation when you come out.
